Wadi El Atwani

Wadi El Atwani differs from the other CED wadis as it has absolutely no pharaonic images at all. On the periphery of the survey area, egyptians would have had no reason to travel there as it does not lead to a mine, quarry or the sea. It is also strewn with boulders that even the 4WD must give best to. Two sites have motifs that are not seen anywhere else in the CED, which has led to suggestions that they may be 5th. millennium or earlier. It containd predynastic motifs, including 'arms raised' figures, but none of the 'frond' boats.
